We will also determine the shape of your eye and assess the health of the front and back of your eye

Contact Lens Examinations

The contact lens examination is an addition to your annual comprehensive eye exam. All of our contact lens wearers have yearly contact lens examinations to ensure that their eyes are staying healthy, the contact lens is fitting properly, and their vision is exactly where it needs to be. Once your prescription is determined, we will offer you specific suggestions to give you the best vision achievable in contact lenses. Together, we will determine your objectives for using contact lenses, and educate you on the newest lens materials in order to fit you with the lens that is best suited for your eye. Since each eye is unique, we have a variety of contact lens options available in our office to best suit your needs. Whether its your first contact lens experience or even if you've been successfully enjoying your contacts for years, we can provide you with the correct fit.

We fit all contact lenses, from hard to soft, aspheric, toric (astigmatic), and mulitfocals. We know time is important to you, and we have contact lenses to fit all of your scheduling needs from daily replacement, weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly and extended wear lenses.

We fit contacts for dry eye patients, sports enhancement needs, as well as specialty contact lenses for keratoconus and other corneal diseases.

Retinal Imaging

A new highly sophisticated computerized instrument now allows us to provide you with a thorough medical analysis of your eye health. The digital retinal imaging system takes photographs of your retina (the back of your eye). The procedure assists the doctor in the early detection of many disorders, including cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal detachments and other vision threatening conditions. These images are stored in the computer and compared with images for future exams. This allows the doctor to observe even the smallest change from the previous examination.

We strongly recommend this procedure as part of your exam if:

  • You are a new patient to our office
  • You have never had retinal photos in this office
  • You are 50 or older
  • You have or have a family history of high cholesterol, elevated blood pressure or any cardiovascular disorder
  • You have a family history of diabetes or elevated blood sugar
  • You have headaches or visual disturbances suggestive of a neurological problem
  • You have or have a family history of elevated eye pressure or glaucoma
  • You have any retinal disorder such as a detachment, tear, floaters, veils, flashing lights, bleeding or macular degeneration
  • Your vision is not correctable to 20/20 in one or both eyes
  • Dry Eye

Many men and women will mention at some point in their lives that their eyes feel dry. We will assess the dryness of your eyes and if needed, we will provide suggestions for comprehensive dry eye management and treatment. This can include using prescription or over-the-counter eye drops or gels for more lubrication, or adding nutritional supplements to your diet. Even some foods can assist in the maintenance of moisturizing your eyes! There are also tiny plugs that can be inserted into the corners of your eyes to help you retain more mositure on the surface of your eye. No matter what your dry eye need, we can make a difference!

    Red Eye

If you have allergies or an infection or even an inflammation; our doctors are certified and trained to the highest New Jersey and National standards to provide you with the most up to date treatments that you may need in order to cure the problem.

    Diabetic and Hypertensive Patients

Annual eye exams are the best way to ensuring that your eyes remain healthy while controlling these diseases.

    Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT)

One of the most exciting fields of development in optometry today is that of Optical Coherence Tomography. The OCT is a device that allows our doctors to diagnose and subsequently treat many diseases and conditions of the retina and optic nerve. The OCT works on the same principles as an ultrasound scanner except that it uses light instead of sound to form the images. Light actually travels faster and has shorter wavelengths than sound, so the images produced by the OCT are more detailed, or of higher resolution.

This is an excellent tool for our doctors because it allows them to analyze tissue that is not visible during a routine vision examination. The retina is composed of several layers of tissue that are only microns thick and the OCT allows for differentiation of each of these layers. This unprecedented degree of resolution allows the doctors to very quickly and accurately determine the location and extent of damage caused by diseases, often before there are visual manifestations of the disease. The OCT can actually help the doctors prevent visual loss in cases of diseases such as macular degeneration and glaucoma where early diagnosis is critical to preserving vision. Often times, the OCT can be performed without dilating the eyes.
